Steve Ciesinski Named CEO of Laszlo Systems
March 08, 2004, San Francisco - Laszlo Systems, a provider of server software for rich Internet applications (RIAs), today announced that Steve Ciesinski has been appointed the company's President and Chief Executive Officer.
Ciesinski will immediately assume responsibility for guiding Laszlo through this next phase of its growth strategy. An experienced investor and advisor in Silicon Valley for more than 15 years, Ciesinski has been actively involved with Laszlo Systems since the summer of 2002. He was one of the company's early private investors and he has been a member of Laszlo's Board of Directors since August, 2002. In addition to his role at Laszlo, Steve is a partner at Earlybird Venture Capital where he focuses on identifying promising new technologies that have the potential to solve serious business challenges.
Ciesinksi succeeds Barry James Folsom who resigned from his position for personal reasons. "We want to thank Barry James for all of his valuable contributions to Laszlo. We appreciate his efforts and wish him well," said Ciesinski. Folsom has agreed to assist in the transition and other matters of importance to the company.
"Industry pundits have named RIAs one of the hottest technology trends for 2004, and have recognized the ability of rich Internet applications to radically improve how online business is conducted. I'm thrilled with the opportunity to help Laszlo solidify its leadership position and meet its growth objectives for the year ahead," said Ciesinski. "The entire Laszlo team has done an excellent job laying the right foundation for success, and I look forward to building off of the rapid momentum behind the company and the category as a whole."
Prior to joining Earlybird in 2000, Ciesinski served as President and CEO of Resumix Inc., a leading supplier of technology-based applications for e-recruiting and human skills management. Ciesinski has also held leadership positions at Octel Communications, Applied Materials and Proctor & Gamble. His management credentials coupled with his experience as an active private company investor and advisor give Ciesinski the unique skills needed to help Laszlo expand its impressive roster of clients and meet its fundraising goals. Laszlo Systems has already made impressive inroads into the RIA industry, with key customer wins including BEHR Paints, Earthlink, Yahoo!, and Dean for America.
"Laszlo is a great company with a truly powerful technology that will change the way online business is done. I have the utmost confidence in Steve and his ability to help Laszlo win mindshare as the number one provider of rich Internet applications," said Barry James Folsom, former CEO of Laszlo Systems.
Laszlo's investors are also impressed with the company's performance since coming out of stealth mode in June 2003 and are optimistic about the company's future under Ciesinski's leadership.
"Laszlo has all of the right ingredients to make a huge impact on the way people interact with online applications: sophisticated technology, a smart business model, and a solid executive team," said David Orfao, Managing Director of General Catalyst Partners. "Ciesinski's track record of strong leadership and exemplary vision is a big advantage for the company as he looks to take Laszlo to the next level."
